Privacy

Effective 18 October 2026. This covers the calmdoo app for Mac and the website calmdoo.com.

The short version

Who is responsible

calmdoo is made by Tadas Viesulas, Lithuania, who is responsible for your data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact: vorenyt@gmail.com.

The Mac app

Sound from other apps

To change another app's volume, macOS has calmdoo pass that app's sound through itself. That is why macOS asks you once for the System Audio Recording permission. calmdoo uses it only for apps whose volume, EQ or compressor you have changed, or for every app while "Boost everything" is above 100%. macOS's own sounds, like the charging chime or alerts, are never touched.

The sound is adjusted in memory, a few milliseconds at a time, and played straight back. It is never written to disk and never leaves your Mac. You can take the permission away at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.

Settings saved on your Mac

calmdoo remembers your choices: each app's volume, mute, EQ and compressor, and the "Boost everything" level. They are saved only for apps whose settings you have changed, under each app's identifier (for example com.spotify.client). So this file lists the apps whose sound you have adjusted. It is stored at ~/Library/Preferences/com.calmdoo.app.plist and is never sent anywhere.

Problem log

If something goes wrong, for example macOS refuses the permission or an app's sound cannot be changed, calmdoo writes one line about it to ~/Library/Logs/calmdoo.log, including the name of the app involved. The log holds problems only, never a history of what you played, is limited to 1 MB, and is never sent anywhere.

What the app does not do

calmdoo contains no networking code. It has no analytics, no crash reporting of its own, no accounts, no ads and no update checks. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.

macOS itself may send diagnostics to Apple if you have allowed that in System Settings. That is between you and Apple, under Apple's own privacy policy.

Removing everything

Quit calmdoo, drag it from Applications to the Trash, and delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.calmdoo.app.plist and ~/Library/Logs/calmdoo.log. To clear its permission too, remove calmdoo in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.

The website

calmdoo.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Its fonts and files are served from calmdoo.com itself, so no other company is contacted while you read it.

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., based in the United States. To deliver pages and downloads and to protect the site, Vercel processes your IP address and the city and country it derives from it, acting as our processor. Vercel does not publish a fixed retention period for this; we do not use it to identify visitors. Details, including how Vercel protects data sent from the EU to the US: vercel.com/legal/privacy-notice.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You can ask us to show, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. Since the app keeps everything on your Mac and the site collects nothing beyond the host's logs, we usually hold nothing about you, but write to us and we will check, including with Vercel. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example Lithuania's State Data Protection Inspectorate (vdai.lrv.lt).

Children

calmdoo collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too, and any change to what the app or site collects is described here before it takes effect.
